Hey Rob! It's been a while. Thanks for commenting. The loudness wars and mp3's really did some damage to the quality of music. The art does sometimes get lost because of these advancements. At the same time, todays musician has to compete. Releasing something that sounds like it came off an LP in the 70's is cool, but won't cut through the airwaves. That's why I feel mastering is SO important, good mastering that is. Not home mastering, but an engineer that has honed their craft. A good mastering guy can give you the best of both worlds, an updated sound without loosing the integrity or dynamics of the music.

I really feel you on this one Rick. Since the landscape of the music industry changed about 6 years ago, there has been a lot of processes and art forms that have been thoroughly neglected in the new "instant gratification" world of ITunes and YouTube. All the advancements are great, but sometimes I feel that some of the best parts of being a true artist get lost in the shuffle. As I have always said, there is a reason that the good gear is so expensive. I just hope that there will always be enough of us out there to support some of these esoteric companies like Crane Song and Inward Connections so that they continue to do it for the love, and the sake of good sounding recordings.
